How to Add Videos to your Email Campaigns on Squarespace

In this how-to, we’ll be talking about how to do this using Squarespace’s Videos page type.

Uploading Your Video

  1. From the Pages menu in your Squarespace dashboard, click the + to make a new page, and select the Videos page type.

  2. Now on the Videos page you just created, upload your video, and fill out the details (Title, Excerpt, Description Categories, etc. - we’re going to pay special attention to where it says CUSTOM URL, as we’ll need that to add it to our email campaign later on.

PRO TIP

Setting your Custom URL to something relevant helps with Search Engine Optimization (SEO)!

So if your video is called “How to Build a Log Cabin”, your URL should look like this: /how-to-build-a-log-cabin - with each word separated by a dash ( - ).

Featuring the Video in Your Email Campaign

Now that we’ve got the video uploaded and its’ settings filled out, we’re going to go ahead and feature it in an email campaign. First we’re going to create our Email Campaign.

From your Squarespace dashboard, click Marketing > Email Campaigns > Create, and then choose the template you’d like to start from.

Now, Squarespace doesn’t let us embed videos directly in emails, but we can link to it in two ways;

  • Adding the link to an image (like a video thumbnail, for instance!) OR…

  • Hyperlinking text.

Here’s how to do both:

Adding Your Video Link to An Image

  1. In the body of your email, click the + where you want to add your image.

  2. Choose the Images block type.

  3. On the right-hand side, your image settings will show up. Click Add Images and select the image you would like to use.

4. Once your file is loaded, you’ll notice it says Unlinked after the file name. Click that!
5. Now here, where it says Clickthrough URL, is where we add our Custom URL from before.

Pro Tip

You don’t need to input the entire URL, all you need is what’s in the Custom URL field.

In this case, that’s “/videos/v/log-cabin-demo”

Make sure to include that first “ / ”!

Adding Your Video Link to Text

  1. In the body of your email, click the + where you want to add your text.

  2. Choose the Text block type.

3. Highlight the text that you want to contain the link, then click the link (looks like a paperclip!) button in the text toolbar.
4. Add your Custom URL to where it says https://example.com, then hit Apply.

Remember, you don’t need the whole URL, just “/videos/v/YOUR-CUSTOM-URL-HERE” !

And that’s it, you’re done! Your delighted subscribers will be able to click straight through to that specific video, which is comfortably snuggled somewhere on your site. Have fun!
